I figured I would get online and e-mail all my friends that are Obama supporters. I was ecstatic! The first black president was elected in my 25th year. WOW!!! I mean you just don't understand what this means to so many black people. I followed the link to her chat room so I could surprise her and my ears were assaulted by some man talking about "shady no good Ni**ers." I was shocked. I tried to ask him why he felt that way, there had to be a reason and I wanted to know why. He told me that "If I took a bath I could suck him off."

Wow, so happy that Obama won, and now it just is beginning to sink in that things....may never change in that respect. It saddens me. I guess I should be used to that because I?ve lived in rural Georgia for 10 years. For some reason, whenever those words are spoken, they sting just as much. But then again, I guess that?s the intention.

Time is too short to even try to guess why that guy feels how he does. You cannot change how he feels and trying to change him or understand him is a waste of time.

Yes There has been great change. But like some others have stated here there will be those who never will accept others different from them.(Lets hope a minuscule few.)Hateful words will always be a tool for those who hate.So I feel that those words should not be used by both sides. So If a Word is used by one side as a word of hate towards another of a different race , creed,or gender.Yet between the persons of the same race , creed , Ethnicity it is used as badge of honor. It only promulgates, and validates the acceptance of the word. If the word offends one it should offend ALL. As for dealing with those who hate and only see colour, creed or etnicity, not the person inside . I can only say It can be very hard to take the high road. But a wise freind of mine once told me, that in dealing with bigots " That you can lead a donkey to water ,but you cannot make a Donkey drink" .He later went on to explain. The water is accepteance of others different from you.The Donkey is the biggot, and you are the one leading the burro to the water. By not getting angry and losing your cool , and dealing respectfully with the Burro. you may eventually lead the dunkey to change his mind.

Hi Lammekea, I too am sorry to hear this happened to you. Not only do I know prejudice still exist, I wonder if it always will. I am sorry to say that I think it will, from all sides. This is more then a black-white problem, people are intolerant of their own race just because they are from another country. I have lived in south Mississippi my entire life so trust me I have seen it all. A few years back, in my small hometown, a white football coach invited his team-black and whites to a church revival. Now you would think this would be the one place where all could come together, but when the team members showed up to church you would have thought they killed people there was such a stink. The local preachers (black and white) got together to tell there young people that church was no place to start mixing races. So i ask you again if not church then where. I am glad to see that things are getting better but I also think it will never end. I honestly believe that if everyone on this planet woke up tomorrow on another planet with all having blue skin by the end of the day there would be a group saying "I hate those people with darker blue skin then me. (deep ain't it)
Don't let these narrow minded people get you down, thought i think it will never end I do know these people are getting fewer and fewer. Hold your head high and know "Yes we can" with faith it will get better. Looking for better things to come---Tom

I'm sorry that happened to you.

You're right. Prejudice still exists, and that's not alright ... not in any way. But it is still a huge step. And each step makes it harder for people to maintain their ignorance when faced with the truth of intelligent, accomplished, talented people who are innately worthy of respect.

It's no small thing to have a Black Family about to move into the White House, with the world watching, and a lot of it cheering along with you.

HI GIRL,I'M GLAD TO SEE THAT YOUR BACK. LAST TIME I READ YOUR WORDS ON THE BLOG YOU SAID YOU WERE GIVING L/F UP FOR GOOD. ANYWAY, GIRL LIKE YOU I'M ALSO EXTREMELY GLAD AND EXCITED THAT OBAMA WON BUT THIS IS ONLY THE START. JUST BECAUSE HE WON DOESN'T MEAN THAT THE WORLD WE KNOW WILL CHANGE OVERNITE. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE NEGATIVE & IGNORANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WHO WILL TRY TO BREAK YOUR SPIRIT. DON'T LET THEM GET TO YOU, YOU ARE A FIGHTER AND I CAN TELL, SO CONTINUE TO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP PROUDLY AS YOU LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY THAT WE CAN ALL RESPECT AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. ONCE AGAIN GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK.

Lamekea I am happy for your joy and that is means so much to you. I am not so happy today because my choice did not win but no matter what...I will always respect the Commander In Chief...now Barrack Obama.

The Democrats and other liberals did not respect George Bush the same way = Commander in Chief.

Yes I am Republican but I want to congratulate Obama. If only for a moment.

Forget the simple minded people that do not understand the new upcoming Presidental elect. I congradulate Obama. Job well done.

No, there has NOT been enough change. People like that exist because of the divides that were so strong, even just 50 years ago. People like SkinHeads, the KKK and White Supremecists will always be around, simply because of the hatred brewed up from centuries of inequality.

There will always be people that hold hate closer to their hearts than the love of a fellow person. There will always be people too ignorant to see the hearts behind the skin. There will always be people that see color as a sign of superiority or inferiority, rather than what it is: a pigmentation in the skin cells.

Unfortunately, there is racism on both sides of camp. One side feels superior, simply because history dictated it. The other feels superior, simply because thier ancestors were entitled to it. It's very, very difficult for them to see why this line of thought is so warped, especially since racism is still so alive, even today.

I voted for Obama yesterday. I saddled the fence for months. i only decided to vote for Obama, after talking with my female friends to see why they had chosen their candidates (my male friends had already made their choices very clear :). And for whomever is interested, my friends include a white female College Professor, a white female mother of two, a black female nurse and a black female Nurse's Assistant/Student, like myself. We all were ashamed of McCain's campaign and his choice in running mate. We all felt Obama carried himself with more dignity than any candidate has, in decades (Since King and Kennedy, at the very least!)

So, NO, Lameeka, there has NOT been enough change. But, after Obama takes office, I hope there will be.

P.S. Did you see Oprah's reaction on the news this morning?? Too FUNNY!! She was ecstatic!

Lammekea things have changed and they have done so in such a big way and today just proves it.

Do not let the joy you feel be affected or diminished by one or some, simple minded and intolerant people, for then you let them win.

This is a moment in history that I feel shows real progress and so much promise for the future.

I for one was very pleased to hear the news and share your joy with you. xxx
