Hi all, There has been a lot of blogs lately about romance or relating to romance. I read an article today from esquire about what makes a good first date. They said bringing flowers is no longer the right way to go. They go on to say a trinket bought at a dollar store is the way to go these days. So I think you see the question I'm asking you ladies. If you had a first date tonight (not a first meeting but a real date) would you be upset if your date brought you flowers?

Not gonna even GO there, 4Fun. But, I WILL say, people are either genuinely nice, or genuinely B*tchy, it doesn't take an "advance tip" to find that one out. But, at least you walk away knowing you put forth your BEST first impression! Food for thought! LOL! --True

im not old school - im cynical school..

bringing flowers on a first date is like tipping a waitress in when you order a first drink - it gets you the better service for the rest of the evening...

just thought i'd throw that in there for the ladies to tear apart... :-)

OK, Smoosh and True, go to your corners, your both in timeout now. Oh, and don't team up on me I'm fragile you know.

It's really too bad that I am not ready to use that free week yet, I bet when I am really ready to meet someone I won't be able to think of anything to write. Oh well thats life I guess.

I agree ... great topic for discussion.

I know this may sound old-fashioned, however, you can't go wrong giving a woman a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates or even a gift as a kind of advance thank you for the date.

First dates are important, you want to leave a good impression!

I would be absolutely, positively flattered if a man brought me flowers on a first date. He would get bonus points with me because it would be a pleasant surprise and a very thoughtful thing to do.

If you give someone flowers on a first date and they aren't appreciative, then to me, that is a bright red flag--RUN!!!!

I'll say... hum... depends. Have I been chatting with this person for ages or a blind date. I would be very surprise to get flowers on a first date, but not displeased... I personally and remember I'm not of the same culture as you are, I don't expect anything on the first date, it's just an exploration of who we are. I might expect him to pick up the tab... on that I believe the tradition still applies, but that's about all I expect and even that... I wouldn't be insulted if we were to split the tab. I would think he's cheap but wouldn't be insulted.

I feel it should never go out of style to be old fashioned, theres not enough of it now a days if you ask me. Please keep some of the values a woman really wants around.

I wouldn't be offended but I wouldn't expect it either.

Depending on where the date is to take place and where you are meeting, it could be a pain to be carting a bunch of flowers around all evening!

Any gesture that is well meant shouldn't really be judged or criticised, but for me, the best thing a guy can bring to a first date is himself, some good conversation and maybe some ideas of places to go.

I can't resist - what does your LF's name mean ? I must have misread/misunderstood since your romance ideas are old school...
Did your 1st date agree or disagree that flowers would have been nice?
Hope it turns out into everything you want it to be.

WELL I'M VERY OLD SCHOOL WHEN IT COMES TO ROMANCE, SO FLOWERS FOR ME WOULD DEFINITELY BE A PLUS. IN FACT I RECENTLY MET A GUY FROM L/F AND WE WENT OUT ON A DATE AND WHEN WE NEXT TALKED VIA PHONE LINES, I ASKED HIM, WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FIRST DATE FLOWERS. SO I WOULD NOT BE OFFENDED AT ALL, FLOWERS ARE A WONDERFUL GESTURE.

Well I think that we all will have some different ideas on this one.

Personally, if we did not know each other well then I would not want a bunch of flowers. One flower or a trinket would be nice though.

I dont think there are any hard or fast rules here and like Qadesh said anything would certainly be appreciated as it shows that they have put in that little extra effort.
